a documentary on Tradesmen last evening sponsored by John White and the folks at TACO.
I was very impressed with the context of the video as it considers the trades who typically work with their hands. As we all know that is not entirely true as a large part of what we all do has to do with brain to hand coordination.
One of the discussion points that came up was concerning young people not being very likely to get into the trades. They are more likely to go to college and work in what has been labeled the white collar world. The trades would be the blue collar. There was some discussion in the documentary about the green movement, I was thinking today why not just eliminate blue collar and white collar and call it "GREEN COLLAR".
Thank you to TACO and John White for a great presentation. My apology I lost my announcement for the show and do not remember the name of it or the young man who accomplished the work. I am sure Dan can fill in the gaps that I missed.
Finally I would like to throw out a challenge to all of us over 35 years old. Why not mentor a young man or young women and encourage them to get into the trades. Start with your own children a trade plus a college degree is a big deal but it can be done and we certainly should be encouraging both to take place.
I have a 25 year old grandson who started hanging out with me on work sites at 4 years old he was in charge of making sure all the extension cords got put away every night. Today he owns and operates a construction company and has a degree in Architecture, the company both designs and builds. He is presently working on becoming an Energy Manager (not easy by the way).
Encourage someone (young) today along with a hug it will go a long way.

Nice Event
It was a very thought provoking evening. John Barba and I have been kicking some of these issues around for many years. These issues must be addressed, the questions are how and by whom? It was also great to get to spend a little bit of time with some old friends and to have a chance to make a few new ones. Thanks to everyone that helped to make the evening a success.
