Water Level Question

Member Posts: 19
Just had a G8 installed with a Indirect and a VXT water feeder. The water level for the boiler is about 2 inches above the recommended fill level. Will I run into problems down the road? thanks

Adjusting VXT
Hi- The VXT can be adjusted as to how much water it adds. The instructions are in the I&O Manual. I 've attached a copy in case you don't have one.

Probably not
in answer to your original question. That is, unless your rise on the risers off the boiler is marginal to begin with -- or your risers are too small. And that is assuming that the water level is within the gauge glass.
However, Rod does have a good point: the VXT can be adjusted both as to how much water it adds, and the time delay on a lowish water signal before it adds any. Particularly if you have relatively slow returns, you may get better results -- in the sense of a more consistent water level -- with a delay on the feed. For example, in the boiler I supervise, which is a big Weil-McClain, the initial settings would bring the water almost to the top of the glass, and then let it go down to the recommended level for this particular installation (about 2/3 up the glass) before adding, but then bring it back up to the top. Adjusting the delay and feed amounts has gotten it so that it consistently holds at just a tad over 2/3 up, which is ideal (not that, in my situation, this is an issue -- the system took a whopping total of 2 gallons all last year, not counting the water lost in blowdowns which I do manually).Br. Ask the installer
if he changed the factory setting for some reason. The default is to have it feed until the LWCO cuts in. This is generally the safest thing, because if you have a leak it won't flood your basement before it stops trying. The basic idea behind the automatic feeder is that it keeps the water level from getting below the minimum safe level if you forget to maintain it at its normal level. Under normal circumstances a water feeder should never add water automatically. It's just there as a backup.Just another DIYer | King of Prussia, PA
