Cast Iron Rad Resize

Member Posts: 3
I just removed several sections of a cast iron radiator. (It's got push nipples and threaded rods.) I put it back together and pressured it up and I've got drips from the new joints. The nipples don't look bad to me. Do I need to use a sealant of some kind? Should I get new nipples? From Dan's FAQ on resizing, it sounds like no sealant, etc. is required - just a tight fit.

Leaking Rads
You have to use new push nipples when you take rad sections apart. The nipples are mild steel and they conform to the cast iron which is harder. A little lubricant, such as cutting oil, will aid assembly.
Sometimes you get lucky with old nipples, but quite often you get the kind of results that you've experienced.Bob Boan
