R.I.P Auntie Irene

My Auntie Irene was much like a second mom to me. I’ll miss her.

Though there’s sadness in her departure my faith in the lord reminds me that there’s a great joy in knowing she’s with the lord now, she’s been fully restored and is no longer in pain and she’s with her family in heaven.

I can picture her in my mind yelling out to my mom, Anita I’m here, I’m finally home!

I’ll miss you auntie-mom, may you rest in peace.

  • It hurts

to lose a loved one.  I think they mean more to us when we are older because there are fewer and fewer of them and we feel alone.  And we will always have fond, irreplaceable memories of them when we were young.

All the best to you, Alan.

Not just when we get older.

The first person I knew and cared about that died was 28 years old. She was at a party and dropped dead of a cerebrial hemmorage. They say she did not feel a thing. I sure hope not. I was a little older than she was. It was quite a shock. Then another friend died in an airplane crash. He was the pilot. He did everything right, but there was ice in the gas tank, so when he did the preliminary checkout and drained out the water, it did not come out. But it soon melted, the engine stopped and he was not high enough to glide it down (he had a glider license too). The NTSB or whoever it was complimented him in avoiding a school near the airport, for all the good that did him. I was in my late 30s by then. This kind of thing kept going on. I did not really like my parents, so by the time they died, it did not matter all that much to me. Similarly with my grandparents before them. But now people I like, and some I seriously dislike, are dying. And some of those I dislike are precious to people I care about. One of those just died a couple of days ago.  Now that I am 73, it just keeps happening. As John Donne said,

    "No man is an island,

    Entire of itself.

Each is a piece of the continent,

    A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,

    Europe is the less.

As well as if a promontory were.

As well as if a manor of thine own

    Or of thine friend's were.

    Each man's death diminishes me,

For I am involved in mankind.

    Therefore, send not to know

    For whom the bell tolls,

    It tolls for thee
    ."
