The Environmental Protection Agency has directed Pennsylvania to improve its sampling and monitoring process for waste water coming from hydraulic fracturing operations in the Marcellus Shale. The EPA last week ordered major drilling firms operating in Pennsylvania to disclose how they will address fracking runoffs after being prohibited from using sewage-treatment plants. "We want to make sure that the drillers are handling their waste water in an environmentally responsible manner," said Shawn Garvin, EPA's mid-Atlantic regional administrator. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (5/16) <img src="http://cdn.smartbrief.com/images/briefs2/common/sm_share.gif" width="34" height="14" alt="Right-click here to download pictures. Not enough.

In addition to disposing of their wastes, they must ensure that the liquids they inject never percolate into the water table. This is expecially important since the chemicals they use are secret, and even if they divulged what they are, they have probably never been tested for lomg term health hazards, especially in groups.

    Fracking

In Canada they are fracking using liquid propane which bypasses most of waste problems associated with water fracking.

    It is my understanding

that all of this takes place well below the aquifer and should not e affecting drinking water purity
