    Actually

I have seen many people of different trades installing boilers. Steam or hot water. You do not need a license to install them in Mass. Just a plumber to hook up the water and a fuel guy for the oil line and burner or the plumber or gas fitter for the gas line. The boiler piping it's self no license as long as it is under a certain fire rate. This is why there are so many bad installs and low ball pricing. RD I was not really that offended just figured I would stand up for at least my own reputation as a plumber.

    Re: appreciation of help

I sure hope the original installer appreciates all the effort that has gone into this fix and what is yet to go into it. His part of the fix is because he made a mistake. He needs to accept this graciously and really be humble in fixing his screw up. I feel admiting mistake and humbly fixing ones problems makes for a very good lesson learned and you remember it and don't do it again. If you can't admit mistake, you don't learn!  Tim

    I have been fortunate

Most of my mistakes were caught before anyone else noticed outside of myself and my father. I realize many in the trades are not that lucky. When a mistake was made I always quietly fixed it. I am sure my customers never knew a mistake had been made. Making mistakes is truly how things are learned, I do prefer learning from others mistakes though. There is one mistake I made I still have not fixed. Almost 15 years ago I was working installing a mono flow system in a basement. One tee I installed backwards. It worked fine since the first day it ran and has never been an issue since. So there it sits. I may go back and fix it yet.

    Grace

Regarding the March 31 post "Usually grace is extended to the apologetic"; forgiveness is extended to the apologetic while grace is extended to those who don't merit the favor.  I'd be willing to chip in toward the purchase of the book!
