Pounds or Ounces

I'm working on a system that has had a boiler replaced and I think that the installer used the wrong control. Attached is a picture of one of the valves and the device that is on the end of the return line. The return piping from the radiators is 1/2" pipe with standard elbow fittings.

Can anyone tell me if this system is designed for ounces of steam.

Problem is that the radiator valves are leaking when the steam pressure rises.

    ny vapor system

definitely ounces, so a 16 oz vaporstat will be needed, along with our favorite gauge [gaugestore.com 0-15 ounce]. keep the useless 0-30 psi gauge on the boiler, as it is required by code.

the device on the end of the return must be a main vent of some sort, and it may well not work at pressures more than 6 oz. does it seem to work before the pressure gets up there? it may contain a check valve within to maintain a vacuum. that may have to be defeated so that the vacuum can be relieved.--nbc

    Main Vent

Looks like a Hoffman 75 behind that thing. It is painted green.

    That's a "Thermal" System

note the TS emblem on the side of the valve. It's an Orifice-type Vapor system. You need a Vaporstat as this beauty runs on ounces.

Right now we have two Thermal threads running- where is this one located?
