manual reset pressuretrol

On a system that has a pressuretrol set to cut out at 1 1/2 psi, what should the manual reset be set at?  I have it set at 5 and someone in the building is saying that it's set too high an that it should be at 3.

    Five seems OK...

It is, after all, a safety backup.  Three might be a little better -- thinking of possible problems with traps and vents -- but on the other hand, these things are a little flaky and the last thing you want is for it to trip before the regular one does, at oh dark hundred hours and 10 below zero.  So I'd leave it at 5 and not worry about it.

    Yes

That is the exact reason why I raised it to five.  It was set at 3 and the pressure on the guage does get to 2- 2 1/2 psi even though it's set at 1 1/2 and I didn't want a no heat call.  Also it is not regulating the pressure in the system, it is just a safety device.  Thanks.

    you may want ...

to install a L408J1017 vaporstat and/or get a good low pressure gauge on there to see what's going on .. of course you've already cleaned the pigtails and the pressuretrol intake orifice right ..
