Hi all. Can a two pipe steam radiator be used for a single pipe steam system? or vice versa?

Thanks

    Yes...

with some cautions.  First, to go from two pipe to one pipe you will need to drill and tap for a vent.  Many (but not all) radiators have a provision for that, in the form of a pad about halfway down one or both of the end sections.  Some even have a pre-drilled hole, filled with a plug.  Which may be an unholy bear to remove if the radiator is old.

To go the other way, you will need to add the appropriate return bushing, taking out the plug which is at the bottom.  Which, again, if the radiator is old can be an unholy bear to remove...

    Thanks Jamie

I am doing some reading where some two pipes radiators are connected across the top.

now assuming a radiator is connected across the top (see picture),  can this be used as a single pipe steam assuming I plug the top supply valve (assuming its a 2 pipe radiator) and add a vent in the middle of the radiator opposite the supply valve?

    Thanks!!

Two pipe and cast iron water radiators

can be used on one pipe. Steam only radiators( those not connected across the top) can only be used on steam, one pipe or two pipe.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
