zone valves

Hi, Zone valve call backs. 24 hrs later after the whole building was warmed up, zone valve took out the 120/24 vac trans former , not the t-stat, and after tranformer was replaced then you can hear the zone valve open - hit the stops and close then open again and again and again. All the while the faithful were sitting in the pews. If it was easy everybody would do it.Right. Merry Chirstmas to all.

    zone valve issues

Don't want to mention any brand names here, but this is not an uncommon issue.

Change the power head on the zone valve. Have seen this happen many times before.

If it is a power to open power to

close zone valve it could be the head or a shorted thermostat wire.

Re: zone valves and constant cycling

If someone replaced the zone valve, if they are 3 or 2 wire White Rodgers, make sure the wiring is right. The schematics they provide for multi zone valve wire up are somewhat hokey and confuse a lot of techs. We just went over to fix a job where others had replaced a 3 wire zone valve with 2 wire and they could not get it to work right with the other valves. So we went over and found that is what they did. Replaced with 3  wire  and done. Good luck

    To add just a little

to Tim's posting. The White Rodgers 1311 series zone valves use SPDT thermostat. The zone valves have six terminals and are numbered 1 thru 6. The thermostat is wired to 4-5-6 (4 - 5 to open 5 - 6 to close) and 1 & 2 go to the secondary of the transformer. Then 2 & 3 are your end switch typically wired to T T on the relay.

The 1361 model of White Rodgers is a SPST with just five terminals. 1 - 2 -3 are wired the same as above 4 - 5 are wired to the SPST thermostat.

    Hope this helps.
