Older unit "Majestic Vermont Castings" 33XDVRN
Vent was inspected and was clear and in good working condition from what I could tell.
Ideas?

Is this the first time you fired it off this year, if so you may be smelling dust. If you are always smelling it you may needv to have the gas pressures checked.

Its an older unit,from what I was told customer gets this smell every year each time they use it. Manufacturer is out of Canada and not so easy to contact.

Get a professional to
take a look at it odors from gas equipment are not normal. There is the possibility that you are smelling aldehyde which means it is making Carbon Monoxide. Do you have a CO detector. If not get one..0 -

CO detectors through out the house...never been set off
There is one 5 feet away and never went off while I was there so I tested it and worked fine
Batteries changed every year0 -
