    Good heavens

there could be any one of a number of reasons!  For starters, is the thermostat still calling for heat?  If not, is the space temperature where it should be?  If the answer to that is no, it could well be that the thermstat needs attention -- check for cycle time, or if it is an older model, anticipator setting.  If the thermostat is not calling any more, and the space temperature is OK, this could be quite normal, particularly in the "in between" seasons (such as right now).

If the thermostat is still calling, you need to find out which other control (e.g. pressurestat, low water cutoff) is shutting off the burner.  For instance, if you have significant surging, it could be either one, quite easily -- the surging might be dropping the water level below the LWCO, for instance.  Of the pressure variations with surging might be enough to trip the pressurestat -- but not enough to let it reset.  Or if you have a vapourstat set nice and low, it could be that normal pressure variations are large enough to trip it (I've seen this problem; cured it with a snubber).

    Or...

You need to really figure out what is shutting off the burner, and let us know -- then we can be a little more helpful!
