zone pumps / old boiler

I think my (very old) boiler has three zone pumps on the return right before the boiler, is this common? The boiler appears to have two return inlets on the rear and the outlet is on the top front. I believe it's a National.

Very Common but...
Not the best way to do it. Circs. work better on the supply side, down stream from the expansion tank connection.Bob Boan
