Fin style steam radiator?

Hello all

Doing my first steam boiler job, trying to size system correctly. It will be a oil to gas conversion.

Did a basic heatloss using the free software and was told after the fact when I went to order boiler that the most accurate way would be to size each radiator. Well all the radiators are recessed and after removing the covers noticed they are all fin type radiators ,I couldnt find any writing or tags to give me any info.

Should I just measure length and width? Is there a calculation to determine btu's needed?

Also wondering if there is any possible issues to run into after doing the conversion with the hopefully more efficeint boiler etc..?

Thanks for any help

    It's a pain, but...

A good way to figure the EDR of fin type radiation is to figure the area of each fin (count both sides!) -- get the overall area of the fin, then subtract the area of the pipe connecting the fins -- then count the fins per foot and multiply by the area (both sides) of each fin.  That's your EDR per foot, close enough, and then just add up the number of feet.  Make sure you do the whole thing in square feet, or convert to square feet!!!  The area of the connecting pipe is not important -- there isn't enough of it.
