Two Idaho fishermen who rammed a docked sailboat, left the scene, then said they had no memory of the incident were likely delirious because of accumulated fumes from a propane-powered space heater, doctors say. The pair had sheltered beneath a canopy during blustery weather, and carbon monoxide buildup left them semiconscious and with little recollection of the day's events. "We were going to cite [them] for negligent operation until we substantiated the fact that they really didn't know what they were doing," said a sheriff's department official. Bonner County Daily Bee (Idaho) (4/13)

Symptoms of CO poisoning...
Back many years, before I became a CO Awareness Ambassador, I was working on a job site. Prior to my arrival, the plumber, who had forgotten to put the code require catch pan beneath a tank type water heater, had his assistant pick up the water heater, while another assistant slipped the pan beneath the heater. They didn't realize it at the time (I hope) but the 4" vent serving the heater had an adjustable elbow break during the clean and jerk process. I was in the room with the water heater running all day long due to the cleaning people getting the home ready for occupancy. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was being exposed to CO poisoning. About 3:00 PM, I noticed that all of the cold water lines coming into the mechanical room were sweating like mad. I started investigating, and found the busted elbow. I got the tinners to come over and replace it.
I had scheduled a service call back in Denver for 4:00 PM, so I hurrridly gathered my tools, and went about my business. Half way back to Denver, I realized that I forgot to GRAB my tools, and had left them laying in their buckets in the mechanical room.
I went back to the job site, and grabbed the buckets of tools, and headed back to Denver. I went straight home. Completely forgot to go to the previously scheduled appointment.
Talk about losing your mind over CO...
I now carry a CO detector wherever I go. Can't be too safe out there.
