Tim, Question on excess air

Tim,
Where do I find information on what excess air is exactly and how it affects combustion. I am fairly new to gas appliances, immediately purchased a combustion analyzer, but was unsure of some of the readings.
Is there some good literature out there to help me.
Thanks,
Rob Blair

There are many good books on
combustion and combustion related material. My Fundamentals of Gas Volume I would be a good place to start.
The subjects include:
Fuel Gases
Natural Gas Facts
Combustion
Gas Burners
Gas Pilot Assembly
Orifices
Gas Pressures
Burner Problems
Carbon Monoxide
Mechanical Controls
