new boiler

am getting ready to replace my 94 year old boiler. i have the book the lost art of steam heating, in doing my research i have discovered i have the "dunham home heating system" as illustrated on page 252 figure 23. my current system does not have a hartford loop. (again like the illustration). my question is do i need to eliminate the 1/4" dunham air line valve which is indicated by the number 3 on illustration? and if i need to keep them are there any moving parts inside that i would need to update or replace?? as i will be adding the hartford loop upon completion.

thanks

Do you have a picture handy. My copy of The Lost Art is in my work van.

here is a picture of the existing valve, it is at the end of the main steam run before it goes back to the condensate, i do not have a scanner. i have included a couple more that may help reference it for you
