THE OTHER DAY THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY FOR BUILDING WE HAVE BEEN SERVICING FOR A FEW YEARS CALLED AND REPORTED A STEAM RADATIOR WAS MAKING SOME NOISE, THE FELLOW I SENT TO CHECK THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AND SAID HE NEEDED SOME STEAM TRAP PARTS, AND BROUGHT ME THIS PICTURE, IT SEEMS THE RADATIOR TRAPS THAT HE HAS LOOKED AT IN THE BUILDING ARE ALL INSTALLED LIKE THE ONE IN THE PICTURE.  THE TRAP IS A #1 ILLINOIS.  HAS ANYONE SEEN THIS TRAP INSTALLED LIKE WE FOUND THIS ONE?  IS THERE SOME ABOUT THIS TRAP THAT MAKES IT WHERE IT CAN BE INSTALLED LIKE WE FOUND THIS ONE?  FEEDBACK PLEASE!!

    Perhaps...

I have seen photos of an Illinois installed like that, although I've never seen one in person.  If there are others like it, and they are working...

But you might repost this over on strictly steam and someone with more experience than I might answer.

    trap

    Isn't it mounted backwards???
  • No

It`s a vertical-mount trap and was quite common in the day.
  • I've seen loads of those....

     in and around Sterling, Illinois.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    That one

looks like it's been repaired with a new cap that accommodates a Barnes & Jones "cage unit" repair kit. The original Illinois cap was a lot flatter.

The vapor heating Co 597 5th av NYC. also made one like this, at least thats what stamped on the trap. I was able to get elements from tunstill.
