radiator covers - good or bad ?

Looking for opinions on using radiator covers. I have read various reasons why they are good for effectively distributing heat into a room, and have read as why they are not good, as they will absorb the heat from the radiators . thyanks

    It depends...

did you get your copy of Greening Steam yet? If so, the answer is on page 33...

Depending on the configuration of the cover (where the vents are, if it's baffled etc.) a cover can either increase the amount of heat the room gets -- up to 10% -- or decrease it -- as much as 30% to 35%

    The complete answer

I don't think that chart on page 33 contains the complete answer. Is the radiator oversized for the room? If so, a cover that reduces its effective size by 35% might be just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks for the reply . The radiator is not oversized. Its not like I am in the room and say , boy its hot in here. Quite the oposite .They work, they are comfortable but would not want to sacrifice output for esthetics .

Try this link as it has some good info on the subject.

I've also attached a chart that I found on enclosures.
