This looks like a greener solution than replacing one salt for another; does anyone have any experience with these devices or can substantiate/refute their claims?

So far as I know

They do not work.  At least, I've never seen a similar device work (I've not encountered that one) and the chemistry which they quote is dubious, at best.  However, until I actually tested one, I'd hesitate to say categorically no.

Personal experience with magnetic water conditioners...

sez YES, they DO work, but only on calcium based crud, NOT silica based crud.

They have been in business for 45 years. Now, I know a lot of people think this stuff is snake oil, but my question to them is, how can these guys be selling snake oil and still be in business 45 years later?



The technology has been around for a hundred years, and it is rumored that it was used on steam engines crossing the plains, and that it is the only thing that saved the steam boilers from completely locking up due to hard water drawn out of the creeks for these steam behemoths...



I will be purchasing one of these types of "wired" type of conditioners soon for a neighbor of mine in the mountains.

Filter or not?

My understanding is that while water softener truly filters the minerals out of the water, this device nuetralizes their magnetic charge and therefore do not accumulate in the piping system/fixtures....am I right here, feel free to correct me!
