Steam trap question

Member Posts: 41
I have a 10' baseboard running on steam. For a while the Sarco steam trap was making a clanking noise and I was also getting loud gurgling coming from the radiator. My heating guy said the steam trap was making noise because the steam pressure was getting too high. So we adjusted the vaporstat to lower the steam pressure and most of the clanking stopped. I then had to tilt the radiator up about 1/2" to help drain the water and eliminate most of the gurgling noise. But now I am noticing that when the radiator heats up about halfway, I get the clanking noise from the steam trap for about 15 seconds and then it stops. Any idea what could be causing this?

At a guess
the trap trying to figure out whether it's seeing water, air, or steam and trying to make up its mind what to do next... I don't know of a cure; maybe someone else with Sarcos will know.Br. Jamie, osb
