I'm trying to figure out how to remove or slide off the thermal coupler that the gas co. service man does so easy. No longer using this service that is so expensive just to replace this unit. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

I typically do not
recommend that homeowners take on this task. You are better off getting a professional to service your equipment.
Now why do you want to remove the thermocouple? Is it not keeping the pilot lit?0
