Pennco 1605HSD pilot won't stay lit

Hey-

I just found this great forum after searching around google for some gas fired steam boiler info.

Following the lighting instructions on the side of the unit, I tried a few times to get the pilot lit (it went out a few hrs ago).  At first it wouldn't stay lit after letting go of the red button.  Once it did stay lit for a minute but then went out. The last time it stayed lit and I got the boiler to fire, but it went out a minute later.

I'm going to call for service tomorrow but I'd like to know what the problem might be so that I don't get ripped off (hopefully the company & tech will be honest). I've been meaning to do the right thing and have a pre-winter check done anyway.  Fortunately its not freezing yet.

Thanks in advance

-Ethan

    Probably needs a new

thermocouple and the pilot will need cleaned. Check Hot Tech Topics "Procedures for Troubleshooting Thermocouples" so you do not get ripped off. A good tech will follow those procedures and take some millivolt readings.
