boiler won't reset

I ran out of oil on my old single pipe steam boiler so I turned off the switch until I got my delivery. After the delivery I turned the switch back on and pushed the reset button and the pump ran for a few seconds and then stopped. I pushed the reset button again and nothing, and the green light on the transformer flashes rather than stay on steady. the instruction on the transformer says if this happens it is locked out and you must push the reset button. pushing the reset does nothing, the light still flashes. Any ideas?

    The fuel unit

is probably air-bound, and needs to be purged.

The flashing light is still flashing for a reason. It's telling you to call a pro. Try the Find a Professional page of this site.

    resetting control

After doing some searching I found my answer on how to reset the Honeywell R7184 series control.

    RESETTING FROM RESTRICTED LOCKOUT

If the control locks out three times in a row without a complete heat cycle between attempts, the lockout becomes restricted in order to prevent repetitious resetting by the homeowner. To reset, hold down the reset button for 30 seconds (until the LED flashes twice).

    Lockout

Every time I have responded to a call where the homeowner figured out how to reset the control it created a bigger more expensive mess.  Thanks for posting it.

Yep, that's how you do it

but, unless you are a trained oil burner tech, and know how to correctly purge the fire box and reprime the pump...

    DON"T
