Pressuretrol / Vaporstat Questions

Does the Honeywell PA404 pressuretrol have its own pressure monitoring capability, or does it rely on the attached pressure gauge to tell it the pressure? I ask, because the gauge on my heating system seems inaccurate, so if I play with the settings on the pressuretrol, I am wondering if it will make much of a difference utilizing an inaccurate gauge, unless the pressuretrol can measure pressure levels on its own.
When installing a Vaporstat, is there a specifc gauge (brand and/or model) that should be installed with it?

They both have
their own internal pressure measuring systems. However... if the pigtail from the boiler is clogged or partly so, which is one reason for an inaccurate gauge, they'll be inaccurate too. When putting a new pressuretrol or vapourstat on, it's a very good idea to use a new pigtail (preferably red brass) as well -- or at the very least clean the old one thoroughly.
There is no specific gauge required for a vapourstat, although you can install any good low pressure gauge if you like. Keep in mind that the original gauge or a replacement with the same range MUST still be connected (typically 0 to 30 psi to go with a 15 psi safety valve) -- it's required by code.Br. Jamie, osb
