OT- Wood Fireplace

what happens if someone forgets to open the fireplace damper? What happens if a log happens to be a sparky one and the screen wasn't left up? What happens if a log rolls out and knocks the screen down?
Strikes me as a seriously bad idea.

Hi Wallies,
We have a customer who would like to retrofit a wood burning fireplace with a timer/gas valve/burner setup to ignite whatever wood they happen to put in the fireplace at a preset time. Anything available ready made? Any ideas?0 -
log lighters
are approved for use in woodburning fireplaces in most communities. They are controlled by a key valve located in the floor or wall within 6 ft. of the Fp but they are manually operated. You open the damper, place a match by the lighter pipe, step back and open the valve then once the gas is ignited, you add wood. There are no gas controls approved for use with wood as you describe.0
