How can you determine if a vent has been damaged due to water hammer?

Difficult to be
absolutely sure, but... if it lets air out, but not steam (or water), and lets the air back in when things cool... it's working. Maybe not as well as it should -- that takes some fancy gauging to be sure about -- but it's working.Br. Jamie, osb

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of taking the vent off of the main and trying to blow air back through the vent to see if it was allowing air to return into the main after the sytem cooled down. That was my main concern.
The forward direction (venting out the cold air)I could easily check by determining how long it takes for the main to get hot down to the vent. Thanks again.0
