    Simple, Easy to Use, Compatible

Gee Ed, you sure are hard to please!

Actually, the only one I know of and even that has limitations, is AutoCAD LT.

Other programs (LoopCAD for radiant floors, Visio, VectorWorks are a few) have "import" and sometimes "export" features which mean that you can insert or send out drawings from and to AutoCAD, but which are limited in function or ability to make changes.

Even LT does not always "get everything" between versions, although it is better than it used to be.

A lot of the contractors bidding on our work have the full suite and actually use and create better CAD drawings than we the engineers...

    I use

DesignCAD 3D Max 18 -- AutoCAD compatible, 3D, has parametrics for piping if you're into that, a really good library of fittings available...

And costs $99 from www.upperspace.com. I've used it for years, professionaly.
