actually...
Here in the beautiful Lehigh Valley, PA we are blessed with higher heating oil prices because it is now all low sulfur. This in my opinion was what kept me on the fence with condensing oil boilers. I would dare say that I would try it now...0 -
WOW!
Stop using equipment because of what others do to it. Amazing. How about servicing it yourself? Or how about training the obviously incompetant service guys in your area? Talk about insulting with a wide brush. It is these kinds of posts that raise the hackles. So what do you install? Only pinners, because that is what the masses can handle for servicing? Why is it the service companies were called in less than a year after all of your V installations? Why were you not called in? Just cannot seem to wrap my mind around your claim. As an installer I definately take care of any issues in the first year. After that I maintain about 98% of the equipment we put in.

Back to my questions
What combustion problems? What are the fixes? Am I #*%#ed ? Could someone please try and concentrate and not go off on a tangent. Thank you0 -
As far as I know you didn't start the thread anyway Sam, so your comment about my tangents, are in a way just another tangent to the original thread
But on a serious note, the problem is not the Vitorond boiler itself but the Beckett NX burner, I have heard other contractors have some problems with them but my personal opinion is that most contractors who have problems with burners don't take the time to learn how to work on them!!. I can't speak from experience however because I have never installed or worked on an NX burner on a Viessmann boiler. If I can't get paid to install the Chassis burner, I prefer the Riello (My fav all around burner) which is usually always an option for a couple more bucks. If Riello is not available I use the venerable Beckett AFG, however I think that the only options on the VR100 are Riello or The Beckett NX.
Unfortunately we all learned the hard way... if no-one can answer your specific question you might try doing a search of past threads, I have found some great info this way... You also may want to ask your local Beckett rep for a live fire demonstration, around here the reps from Beckett are very helpful. I have also had good success calling Beckett's hotline, you usually can talk to someone right away- 1-800-OIL-BURN (800-645-2876).
Good luck,
Cosmo0 -
The
Initial VR-1 w NX didn't use the stainless chamber insert. They have for a number of years now. With the insert either Beckett NX and Riello(which had the insert from the start) work just fine.

Bruce
Please just admit you made a foolish statement that called out pretty much everybody on this site. Have you installed a viessmann or not?
Franz0 -
Thanks, I remember the first time I opened the box with the insert... "what the heck is THIS???". I have found that this insert really helps clean up the combustion, too bad all three pass boilers with no refractory target walls have these inserts.
What do you think of the NX burner? It just looks like a smaller version of the AFG to me, unlike the dreaded AFII the NX looks more familiar...

I like
the NX quite a bit.Easiest burner to use outside air.The cover has been redesigned and it also comes with a Genisys control with display at N/C

nice pic of the great install.
Question- The latest covers I have used w/ the AFG are really flimsy, especially after getting knocked around a little... I noticed the 4 screws that attach the cover to the backplate stripped the threads very easily. Then the screws that hold the backplate clamp on the combustion blast tube keep loosening up.
Is the NX cover any better?0 -
Let me clarify
I may have given the wrong impression, I did not mean during the first year, I always take care of any problems that would come up in the first year, I meant after the first year when the service company came in to do an annual cleaning. I very rarely had a problem with the equipment after I had set it up. I just got tired of being the only guy around who actually new how the controls worked. I am not bad mouth the Viessmann equipment at all, most of it is top notch stuff.
I now use so called "inferior equipment" and try to use different levels of control strategies to fit the needs of the system, customer budget and ease of service in the long term. Is this such a bad position to take? I'm happy, have less issues all round and make a decent living for my family. Apparently though I am labeled as " Incompetent " by some because I do not use the big V.0 -
You are Not Incompetent
But think about it, the service companies that have created problems for you after you correctly installed Viessmann products certainly are. How many servicing people don't use the proper procedures or parts?0 -
