    Dave,

Very sorry for you loss. I lost my dad last year, and even though it's hard to believe now, as the hours, days, months and years pass, it does get easier. And, when you need him most, he'll be there for you.

    My condolences, Dave.
  • Many Thanks

    Dan,

First of all - thanks for posting the information. Second - thanks for the off-screen shoulder to lean on over the past few weeks. Same for ME, who also lent me support as we worked through some very emotionally difficult times.

I never fully understood the importance of the posts here in response to the passing of loved ones, but I sure do now. Your posts were (are) a source of comfort and strength and will not be forgotten.

Kind words, generous hearts, and great friends - an extended family. More than a few tears were shed while reading the posts.

We were fortunate to have a few days & weeks to gather together as Dad's health slipped away and not one moment was lost during his transition to communicate our love for him or him his love for us.

Last Sunday, I sat with Dad and asked him for an interview - for his obit. More than a bit awkward from my perspective, but he put me at ease and from that point on, I scribbled notes as fast as he could tell animated stories in response to my questions. I thank God for that night with Dad - it was his last coherent night with us.

Two days later (Tues) we were sure he was dying as we put him to bed and we all gathered bedside top say our good-byes. Although he no longer could open his eyes, he could hear and respond to each of us and said "I love you (name of individual inserted)" At one point, he squeezed my hand and said my brother's name. We looked at each other & I thought I'd play along & replied back - he immediately understood he's made a mistake and corrected himself! The mind remained - it was the body that quit.

At the memorial service on Sat, an honor guard will give him a gun-salute, taps will play & Mom gets a flag. Then comes the service and, lastly, an opportunity for the three sons to speak. Humor, laughter, no doubt some more (where do they all come from?) tears in our send-off for Dad.

Thank you one & all for the support you gave us in this time of need - it was more important than you may have imagined.

    Uncle John

I met some of you when in Parker, CO, for an event earlier in the year. Cousin Dave and I will join with the rest of the family starting tomorrow and through the week as we circle-the-wagons and begin to move forward. Thanks for all the warm thoughts.

you and your family. I lost my Dad about 10 months ago. I will say that, while I miss him every day, my appreciation for what he offered and gave me grows with every day.
