Almost 2 more for me since last post
On schedule with my last 20 lbs over the next year.
Over weekend went clothes shopping as I had to retire more slacks.
90 degree weather really helps!

a former svelt 190
is now pushing 225.
A few of us were talking at Wetstock and thought it might be good to do a "Biggest Loser" like on TV.
Say for a Christmas target date. Consult physician as needed. I would like to lose 35 lbs and this would help me stay committed.
The thread about "being out of shape" lets me know I'm not the only one out there. I have two young daughters that I want to walk down the aisle someday.
Who's in?
I would like to see less of all of you, more often! Hey wait a minute, uhhh. You know what I mean.

I'm in. Just found out my LDL is around 230. Gotta nip that in the bud. Can't get disability insurance until I get it back down to a more normal level.
I have been working on losing 25 pounds for a couple of weeks now. Feels good!0 -
Please count me in. I am willing to toss in something old & radiant related like a book or a gauge for the 'pot'. We could even do it quarterly. If I think x-mas, I feel like I can start the diet this summer. We would need to start with a picture and weight, and I think we can all agree to the honor system.

My doctor said my weight is perfect I just need to be a foot taller. Are we doing percentage of weight or #s? I could lose 15# before I shop for new Speedos
Since the Chunkingdales won't give me a call I would consider doing this.

lets
lets add height along with weight.
I'm 5/8 and I'm suppose to weigh at around 155 pounds.I'm
around 235 pounds and its getting harder every day dragging all the A%% in crawls and attics.
Here a diet for you if you want to keep the muscle and just lose the inches..may not be for everyone.
7am..1/2 cup of oatmeal and three yummy egg whites.
9am..banana and a cup of non fat yogut.
12..a can of tuna and a salad with a bake potato.
2pm..three rice cakes,apple and a diet soda.
5pm..two bake chicken breat, brown rice and two big glasses of water.
Take your vitamins and ammino acids. No eating after 6 pm.
Remember that dieting alone does not work. You have to workout, walk, run at least 4 day a week.
I've been on this one for three weeks now.
Good luck!

Not that I know any of you guys but I'm in the same boat, and new to the wall and "THE WET SIDE"
I would love to drop another 25lbs myself and will do so but to have a good group of people pushing me to better myself, what better way to drop the "FAT". BEST OF LUCK TO ALL, maybe we can get the WB network in on it, they need a new series>0 -
I am on the way
five weeks ago the wife and I started Nutri-System. I have lost 20 pounds already. I started at 240 now down to 220 heading for 180 glad to join in. This is great because we all need to be healthy.0 -
New to the Wall? Welcome! Where are you at and what do you do? Soo...YOU'RE the guy who watches the WB network? I might as well tell you this now...it pays to wander off the wall. LOTS of great stuff on HH.com!

I'm in. At 6'3" 295 lbs, I can afford to drop at least 5 or 6 lbs.LOL I'm gonna set my start date May 19. I'm heading down to Myrtle Beach for bike week(5-11 thru 5-18)and I'm sure I'll be eating and drinking a bit more than I should. BTW....I will NOT be drinking and driving.
I think pictures and starting weights would be a good idea. When its all over we can post b4 and after pics. Losers get to try harder and winners can start living a healthier life. Seems like a win win situation for all involved.0 -
Can I weigh in holding a boiler right before I install it.

Genes
I know you guys will hate me, but I'm 5 lbs. over my high school weight. Part of it is genes, part is that I'm on my bike two or three times a week and the other part is that I cook for myself and hardly ever eat out. Since I don't know how to cook, I make it simple: steamed vegetables, roasted chicken, salad. And I sometimes skip lunch.0 -
I'm in...
Paul -- you've been reading my mind. Got a good look at myself naked the other day and went "ewww." Lost lots of weight 6 years ago on the "divorce" diet...got remarried and have since put it back on. Don't want to use the same technique again. I'm in for 30 lbs. Should we have a weekly cyber weigh-in?0 -
Sooooo......
This is an honor system and accountability group so we keep each other in check.
I like the weekly cyber weigh in that John suggested. This is the honor system but lets help each other stay motivated. In other words, I REALLY don't want to see pictures of you guys.
We can do this.

We prefer to...
call that blessed with great metabolism. Some of us have fought the "Battle of the Bulge" since birth!
We envy you and try to create better eating habits. I met with a female doctor three weeks ago and she laid it all on the table. Due to periodic gout she wants me to:
1. Quit eating out so much. 2. Drink gallons of water a day(ok just a gallon) 3. Eliminate much of my favorite foods 4.Exercise more (hard to do when we had the worst winter since the Ice Age")5. Do none of the above and go to one of those pre-planning seminars, you know do you want to be vertical or horizontal, green or conventional or just toasted to dust.
She was a cute doctor though (even if she was brutally honest)0 -
IN!!
Great idea..
5'10 220# Target is 185 by Dec
Rich.
Love the Chunkindales Comment, reminded me of the Chris Farley, Patrick Swayze skit on SNL...
Like another poster, I too am only 5# over high school weight..just did it 14x is all. Doesn't help being bed ridden for a long strech because the old back decided on a trip south...0 -
a few weeks ahead of the BL curve!
A few weeks ago, well, more like two months ago, I visited the Doc because I was 'feeling' odd. Yeah, I know what you're thinking - odd would be my normal state(G).
Turned out I had explosively high blood pressure 196/180! We had a talk about what that meant & I entered into a teachable moment. Off for blood tests & the cholesterol reading meant I had lard slugging through my veins! Live or die - not exactly a pleasant moment.
So, I learned about my BMR (Basic Metabolism Rate) & BMI (Body Mass Index). Imagine my shock to discover I was technically within 1/2-Lb of being clinically obese! Then I read up on the BP thing and how to get that under control.
Counting calories? Reading labels? No salt (I loved salt)? No alcohol (reduced, not eliminated)?
The first ten Lbs fell off! Exercise helped too. T-minus 16 Lbs & counting(G). I feel better. My BP is down & just had a third blood test drawn to see if the big-C has continued its downward trend.
My new best friend is MyFoodDiary.com where the features are robust enough to keep me engaged. Because of the reports I was able to generate from MFD that clearly showed my progress, my Doc has held off on setting me up with drugs.
Just 12 more Lbs to go to enter into my "Ideal Weight" range for my age & height. While the first ten Lbs fell off, the remaining weight loss has been within the 1/2- to 3/4-Lb per week recommended. Evidently most diets fail because of rapid weight loss when folks starve themselves, which causes them to binge on foods later. Slow & steady wins the race. Also, as you exercise, fat gets replaced by muscle and muscle weighs more than fat - so you can lose the fat and gain weight! I bought a scale that measures body and visceral fat along with skeletal muscle and it's been interesting to observe those numbers as they change as it relates to weight.
I recently approached a good friend regarding their weight-gain after I overheard others giving him lots of grief. He was not at all amused & admitted his first reaction was to tell me to go do something to myself! But, he's lost more than 10 Lbs in the first few weeks while using MFD.com as a tool to help in the battle for a longer healthier life.0 -
Thanks
Just checked that out right now. Any additional tools are great.
Thanks again0 -
High Blood Pressure
Dave,
That high blood pressure is due to how angry you are all the time. If things don't improve, One of us will have to "install" the appropriate T & P device to prevent a catastrophic blowout.0 -
Some Inspiration
Here is a website that features a friend of mine from high school...it goes to show that much can be done with persistance. His exercise of choice was/is stairclimbing.

T&P rating?!?
True, anger does cause a rise in BP. A Temper & Pressure relif valve would be very nice to have(G). Coulda used on this morning when a neighbor with serious anger mgmt issues deliberately ran into one of our trucks. A few years ago, I would have lost my cool. Now I've got the police report listing him as being at fault. The cop told him, in very blunt terms not repeatable here, what a jerk he has been. He's the reason why we added security cameras months ago & have lots of his odd behavior documented on the system's hard drive & DVD. BTW, my average BP is now 120/60 to 140/80. A bit hypertensive, but it's on its way down.
Tension, like any of us ever see that! Alcohol, salt (the biggee) & being overweight are contributing factors.
Funny thing about not using salt anymore: I can now taste the food.0 -
The biggest thing
The biggest thing that I've lost 18 yrs ago this july was my stinking cigarette habit.0 -
The new kid
Well I work on the wholesale side of things up in the PNW. As far as the WB, I have two little girls and I am a Big Brother with Big Brothers and Sisters (who still need men and women to help these good kids, who just want something or someone positive to look up to-ok thats my plug for the day) Health was a big reason for my decision on weight loss, my Wife and two beautiful girls the MAIN one. I need to be around for them.
This morning I came in at 197.6 lbs on the digital Weight Watchers scale from Costco(sorry second plug today, and the last; I hope) I am on my way to 175, but it has been hard lately. The weight is coming off in .2 to .8 lbs aweek but it is coming off, I think the muscle is coming back; Oh please let that be the case! Good Luck Everyone.
Hey Dan!! How about "DEAD MEN WEIGHT LOSS CLUB" shirts?0 -
I think
that the skull show significant weight loss already0 -
TRUE
True, could always go "WET HEADS WEIGHT LOSS CLUB"
As to the food journal, GREAT tool if you stick with it. I have not used mine in weeks and maybe thats why I am only seeing .2/.8 lbs a week now. My big weakness is chips and salsa after dinner watching a little TV, not needed just wanted and hard to give up doing better though.0 -

I'd like to join in
I have been bouncing back and forth from 230- 237 for a long time since losing my initial weight last year. I would like to get rid of another 20 lbs (conservative) this might be the motivation I need.
May 1rst 2008 6' 236lbs.
The hardest part for me is fighting my cravings

Racing Weight?
Hey John,
When you lose the 30lbs, want to try and take the checkered flag? I haven't been in a go kart in a long time.
Great seeing you in NY for ASHRAE, I missed catching up with you in Chicago!

Cholesterol
is my problem to Josh. Just had my result back at 216! Not super high but still considered high! Paul can tell you that I'm not a big guy, and not really over weigh but it tends to run in my family. I need to do some life changes I guess and see if that works? It cannot hurt.
My wife made that change 4 years ago and shed 80lbs. I'm really proud of her. I'm the type of person that can eat whatever I want when ever I want. I just need to watch what I eat.
More power to you guys I don't know if I could do it.Its about a lifestyle change. Buta person has to try. I'll be there cheering all of you on!!!

I guess I have the biggest potential for "the biggest loser" at 6'2" - 310 lbs. I need to lose about 50 lbs. My plan is to get out and exercise (which I have been doing very little of) and eat less.
Thanks for the extra little push that I really need! I look forward to weighing in and being a big loser :-)
Thanks everyone.

keep up the good work
I am watching what all of you are doing and using it to motivate me. Since wetstock Denver I have lost 12 pounds and you all will keep me at it.0 -
I'm in, also.
6' 3" @ 250 lbs. Playing weight is 220. How about a get together in January. Someplace warm where we can all show off in swim suits!
I want to do this for two important reasons. First, since I decided to downsize and go it alone, again, I need to stay in shape to be able do the work. And, more importantly, my son is 11 and is very interested in baseball. The kid has loads more raw talent than I had at his age and I would like to help develop his skills. It won't be too many more years before he blows by me, so my ego wants to delay that as long as possible ;-)

Me 2
I'm in too!
This is awesome! I've been to busy at work last the few days to check in on the wall and just now found this!
In 1999 I ran 2 marathons and weighed in at 160 lbs. and 5'-9". Currently tipping the scale at 192. Not much running lately, coldest winter 'round these parts and all, but I'm so ready!!! Would love to be back at that 160 mark.
I've done Weight Watchers before and know that the "group thing" can be a big help as well as being accountable to a weekly weigh in.
How about a Friday morning post called "weigh in" and we can all post starting weight, current weight and goal. Also anything you'd like to add about exercise done the past week or trying challenges with food and such?
Best of luck to us all!!! Rich L0 -
I am already there
I am 64 tall, @ 54 years old, (55 in October).
I was 253 lbs. as of last June, (2007).
I used to be in shape and very sports oriented. Just got lazy, and found every excuse not to exercise or diet.
I met with some old friends. One very discrete gent asked me if I had entered blow fish competition. I got the point.
The same week I had a physical. The doc said that my BP, cholesterol, sugar pulse, etc are not very high, but are a little higher every time I come in.
So when I am 65, I am looking at real health problems.
I took it to heart.
Literally.
From that 253 last year, I now weigh 210. I lost the 43 pounds and hit 210 in November of 2007. I have not been off of that weight since. I went from a 40 waist, to a loose fitting 34.
I just got in from the gym, and sat down to read this thread. I try to go 3 times a week, when time permits. I make time, and realize now that and always could have, if I had really wanted to.
This afternoon, I ran 5 miles at 5.5 mph, after lifting for about an hour. That is not a real fast run, but at almost 55 I am not trying out for the Olympics.
When I was young (30), my best bench press was 340 Lbs.
I would never have thought of doing that kind of lifting again.
And guess what, I did a bench of 355 this afternoon before the run.
YOU CAN DO THIS.
I DID, AND WILL NEVER GO BACK.
Good luck to all

So, how does this work?
How do we quantify this and make it work? Set a goal for each one of us? With penalties? ($100 for each pound that we don't loose?)
How about a 5 step program? Each month, you tackle a new step with each step being a new challenge in diet or lifestyle; many choices to choose from:
- cut out fast food
- no candy bar after lunch (that was a big one for me)
- stay off the couch after dinner; instead, go take a walk
- cut out snacks (potato chips, etc.) between meals
- eat more fresh vegetables
Would anyone else like to add to the list? We are talking about adding years that you can stay on this planet by making small, simple changes in the way you live.
