relief valve blows even with pressuretron set at 12psi

have been known to die. However, they are there to protect you. Something isn't right: either the valve is bad or the pressuretrol is. You didn't say, however, what the pressure gauge reads?

steam boiler problems

Help,
I've been having problems with my steam boiler (Burnham) its three years old given to me by the gas company for switching to gas.
The unit was shutting down for no particular reason I think we solved that problem in replacing the main gas valve assembly. It hasn't shut down since we replaced the valve, but it seems we've created another problem.
The pressure relief valve keeps blowing it seems to coincide with me adding water this may be a coincidence. The pressure shut offs are set to 12 main and 2.5 diff.(the first time it happened they were set at 15 main and 3 diff. I thought the boiler technician reset them higher so I lowered them to what the other boilers in the basement were at) the boiler is one of Burnham's smallest I think 50,000 to 80,000 BTU it heats a one bedroom apartment.
During the shutting off problem my boiler technician also replaced the low water cut off

Your pressuretrol is set to high

if in fact it is a pounds pressuretrol. It should be set to shut off at 1.5 to 2 lbs and back on at .5.

Are you sure you are not talking about ounces setting on the control???

theelief valve should not be blowing off check the pressuretrol setting it should be set aslow as possible as tim suggested
