WM plex vent recall

I am on the road right now so I do not have access to the info on the replacement program.
I may be wrong, but I thought that there was a small labor allowance that came with the replacement material. It has been SO LONG since this all happened.
I will be back in my office tomorrow and I will look up the info that I have. I will post what I find.
Perhaps someone else will pop in here with info before that.

P.S. Just to be clear, this was not a WM issue. Plex-vent and Ultra-vent were both recalled and they were used on multiple manufacturer's equipment.

I just put some pics on the WM GV6 tips thread of a WM I am looking at with this plex vent system that is cracked all over. Does WM pay for jus tthe materials, or is labor covered? Has anyone replaced this stuff?

Thanks a million. WM sent out the retro fit kit in a WM box, and it would seem that the kit was sized to his install. The installer is gone. This is a vacation home and the parts were left on his porch.

There was a class-action suit that held the manufacturer's of those venting materials liable for the failure. AND THEY DID FAIL.
Plexco was one and Hart-Cooley was another. I remember asking a nice lady that answered the phone a few years ago if there was ever going to be an end to the recall program and she said "no".
A quick Google search found this.
According to this, you get paid for doing the job.
As I said, I have info on this at my office. I will send you what I have.
Hope this helps.

It has been a few years since I dealt with them, but this is how it worked. The Homeowner must call first with the info on their system. They will be given a few names in their area who are registared to do the work. You will have to register yourself as a contractor in order to do the work. They really did not pay enough for labor so I did not do very many of them. Did it mostly for my own installations and customers.

Second the motion...I found the paperwork and time involved...at least three trips on site...then they would send the material pieced to order plus nothing. And they labor allowance was not enough. So when I do them, I just do them, and let the owner go after them for the warranty satisfaction. I support him with whatever invoicing and affadavits he needs and the owner usually is happy with the arrangement. WMC has very little to say in the matter.
The other issue is that the SS pipe available has different radius elbows and fitings...so there is usually some re-piping to do.

Charged normal service rate for 10 hours and got it all replaced. I now have red silicone all over my clothes but a fatter wallet and no CO in the house seeping through the cracks. I gave the HO all the phone numbers for the recall. What a pain! Thanks a million for the help!

Last time I went through CAP on a replacement I got $180 plus $20 for misc. materials. They paid for all the pipe and fittings. I took care of my customers and declined to do any others.

How did you like the alcohol pads & red glue? Did you keep all the seams up? The HO was amazed I read the install instructions and there was so much to it. I liked the slip vent fittings / pipe but prefer to run the pipe with the gaskets already in them.

The alcohol pads are for your fingers when you cut them.
Yes, I ruined a few tee shirts and jeans with that red stuff.

Here's a tip...throw away the red crap and get some Rutland Black Hi-temp Black silicone...works way better...holds better and longer and comes in a caulking tube instead of the miserable squeeze thing. I see the red crap burned out of alot of the flue's......
