Chimney

I have a hot water oil fired loop system and moved in 8 yrs ago and realized I haven't had the chimney inspected or cleaned. There isn't even a cap on the outside of the chimney. I have my boiler serviced every year, but how often should the chimney be cleaned and inspected? How long should it take? What questions should I ask the chimney sweep before I select one?

It should be inspected at least yearly! However, unless the oil burner is very poorly set, if may not need to be cleaned that often.
That is assuming that the chimney is in good shape. Now if it isn't at least double brick, or preferably lined, your sweep may make some really unhappy noises...Br. Jamie, osb
