zone versus central heating

Sorry, I should have given more info. It will be a four season home built on a crawl space. There is 2400 square feet of living space in the home, (1800 on the main and 600 in the loft). It's being built in Montana so it does freeze here. It will be well insulated. We anticipate retiring to the home in the future, however, it will probably be occupied only half time for the near future. There's no real need for airconditioning. But, given its location, we would like to have some sort of redundent heating system in place.

    zone versus central heating

We are in the planning process of building a new home. It will be our "cabin on the lake". Do you have any suggestions or comments on whether or not we set the home up with a central heat system or a zoned system? We were thinking of propane fire places in two locations for the general heating along with electric floor heating in the bathrooms and kitchen to act as a secondary heating system and backup.

I'd be happy to comment, but...

I'd need to know a lot more. Starting with: is this to be a year 'round home? Three season? Summer only? If not year round, closed and drained in the winter? Does it freeze where you are? Crawl space? Basement? on piers?

    I could go on...

    up to you!

you need to determine how you would like the system to function, then go from there!
