Pro Press still need a tourch

Just got my $2,000.00 worth of compact pro press set up for both copper and pex. Went to install a pex adapter on copper base board but needed a copper x pex 90. Called the supply house to see if it exists. They replied "DO NOT INSTALL COPPER PRO PRESS ON BASEBOARD RADIATION" that since the copper is thinner it will not work so you still have to solder on the adapter.
Other than that, the high cost of fittings and lack of fittings like mono flow tees or press ends on items like auto feeders (mass code no pex 12" heat source) I like my new tool.

Max water temp 250* however the concern is the thin wall of the tubing on the baseboard element itself0 -
My supply house
had a customer do a whole house then when he fired it up only a couple of joints on the baseboard did not leak.

It'll hold fine. I've used on baseboard, and soft copper that was deformed (had to squeeze to sort of round first) it made it real round. They're taking a rightous CYA approach. I've swabbed a little teflon dope on the inside to pack the o-ring when I was really nervous. Did it make a difference? I hope to never know. Good stuff, eh? But you can't go back.0 -
Smoke & mirrors
The press fitting system we use seems to work just fine on the very thin copper of baseboard convectors as far as we can tell. Getting the Mfgr. to approve this is another story. If you understand the way press fittings work, it only makes sense that a softer thinner tubing will have a very, very good seal. The devil is in the details & any Mfgr can test every type of tube but it's really expensive to do so. It still amazes me how thin the copper is on fin/tube baseboard radiation. Are they really saving that much by using the cheapest/thinnest copper tube on their product? I'd be willing to pay extra for a thicker tubing as long as it was NOT made in China!
press on:-)
