Peerless heat exchanger pins pop off

No, nice and clean. They were just grey cast iron color. It was nice and dry and it brushed out cleanly.

    Peerless heat exchanger pins fail

When I cleaned my 4-year old Peerless WBV04 hot water boiler last week there were 6 of the cast iron heat exchanger pins laying in the bottom of the combustion chamber. Why would those pop off? Is that a problem with the Peerless casting? The loss of 6 pins isn't great but if it continuse it decreases the heat transfer capabilities. It is a cold start boiler but I don't know if that's a factor. Peerless markets it that way and I have other cold starts that are much older and never had a problem. Has anyone seen this and is there anything I can do to prevent further pin loss?

    Never seen it, but

Were the little nipples as I call them very rusted? Maybe excessive condensation inside on the casting?

    pins

    Dave,
We just assembled a Weil Mclain 80 series boiler that I noticed had some issues with the pins.

A few of the pins looked like they were snapped off before the metal had a chance to cool off.
