Ron
Welcome to the Exciting and Wonderful world of Advanced Hydronics. You fellas did another superb job and once again have something to be proud of. Jake is actually a representative of Venco Sales of Northport, NY and like all of the other 10 or 11 of Venco's people, is a real hands on kind of guy! Venco is our manufacturer's Representative for the Long Island, NYC, NJ and Southeastern NY are and does a great job for us and several other manufacturers. Thanks again for the Proud Wall pictures and also for supporting Burnham the way you folks do!

Nice Stuff Ron
Well done as usual !
You should be very proud, this church has a noce system that will provide comfort AND save money.
I hate to bring this up But, why is that piping in front of a window for the indirect ? I would be worried about drafts and freezing.

Hey Ron,
It may not be a one-day closet job, but it is yet another one to be proud of.0 -
Really nice looking job Ron
That setup should save the parishioners alot of money. Please see if you can let us know how their oil gallons compared to last year. I get stuck with talking to church groups about equipment changes to save fuel and any real world old church savings helps. I know anyone who follows you guys will love those isolation valves, being able to take a boiler or piping run off line with a ball valve makes such a nice system. Putting the electronics to the side wall makes that such a nice system. I would ask the pastor if your local could use that job for apprentice trainging. I have a dumb question, what is the vertical capped nipple to the left of the valve? I was guessing a quick way to purge air or a way to add chemical treatment. Nothing to do with you guys but I just felt it was too bad that the outside boiler room wall wasn't insulated before you started work, would have been so easy. Those new boilers will have so much less wasted heat with that Tekmar system. I hope your salesman on that job suggested insulating, with fuel costs what they are I think that should be a part of a professional proposal.0 -
Tim
The RTC (Return Temperature Control) controls are the Black controls mounted on the top right front jacket panel of each boiler. They monitor return water temperature by means of an immersion sensor on each boiler return, control the boiler injection pumps, operate the 3-way motorized diverter valves and take charge of boiler firing. They do whatever is neccessary to ensure that the boilers never see return water below 135°F and maintain the proper design temperature rise through the boilers. Hope this helps.

Don't worry
about bringing anything up - this is part of the reason I post pics , so those with more critical eyes can point me in the right direction . A few days ago I talked to the Pastor about insualting the pipes , and I think he's going to do it . I really don't think the pipes would freeze without insulation though ( the hot and cold were in the same place for decades ) , but every bit helps with the oil bill . And the room itself stayed pretty warm , even with the boiler room door open . Thanks Scott for bringing up the uninsulated piping - I forgot all about it .0 -
No
Thank You Ron for doing such nice work and being such a Gentleman. Your right we're all here to learn form each other. Sometimes I think we don't comment because we don't want to insult someone. But learning is what its all about.

Bite your tongue !!!
1st job after this big one was a closet job today . Old boiler kept getting air bound upstairs , so the oil company before us installed a Taco Vortech on the upstairs supply pipe . The boiler craps out a few months later and the company tells them they can't get there for a month ! They sign up with us and we're there 2 days later . Replace the boiler , get it running , and hear the PRV feeding constantly . Tracked it down to a broken copper pipe for the 1st floor baseboard , somewhere in the slab . Needless to say , we felt like crap breaking the bad news to the homeowner's mother , because the homeowner is in the hospital .
Thanks alot Constantin .0 -
You know
at first when we put the boilers in place and hung the black pipe on the wall , I woul have sworn the piping was going to be a disaster . I was more than pleasantly suprised at how it came out in the end .
Hey , anytime you want to come down and swing some wrenches together , I'm sure I can line up a nice GE hanger ! Seriously , working with you for a day would be great David .0 -
Saint Ron ?
I'm pretty sure I'll be residing in a different zip code to be considered for it , in the afterlife .....
Thank you very much Tim .0 -
Yep
No matter how much you accomplish the day before , there's alays more waiting for you .
Thank you Lchmb . If you haven't noticed , I stole some of your piping ideas from the pic you sent me . That was a real sweet install .0 -
Another Church Job
Hey Ron,

Wish I had the time
But I was finishing up all the loose ends while Jake and Bruce , my supervisor , ran low voltage and connected them up . The next day Jake came back and programmed the controls while I fixed all my sweat leaks - 8 or 9 in total . But .... I will definitely download the manuals and see what these things are capable of . After all , someone needs to know how they work for any future troubleshooting . Thank you Chris .0 -
Thanks for the offer Tim
My company , Meenan Oil , is based in Wantagh . I think our cutoff point east is around William Floyd Pkwy. , but I will ask if we go out to Amagansett . I'll give you a call Monday . Thanks again Tim .0 -
Thank you Kevin .
This one I'll keep in my " Good Job Pics " folder .0 -
I'll see if
I can get the oil usage from my service manager in January and compare it to last year . Hopefully the degree days will match up close .
Those 2 capped 3/4 inch nipples were going to be for air eliminators and a means to pour in some cleaner . But since we put in 4 air cans where the boilers tie into the wall header , we just capped those nipples .
Actually , the header piping is on an inside wall . The only outside wall is the one with the window - 10 feet wide . It's made of cinder block and a brick facade .
I personally talked to the Pastor about insulating the pipes and I think he's going for it .
Thank you Dale for your insights and kind words .0 -
Glenn
The reps at Venco Sales are top notch . Jake gives new meaning to the term " hands on " . Jake also gave us the presentation on the new MPO at our office , which is why I though he was a Burnham employee .
I asked this of Jake and I was wondering if you can help too . The burner door as you know is very heavy . Bolts are used to hold it in place , and you need to thread in the lowest one first to hold the door up while catching a few others . The problem is the door is so heavy that it bends the lower bolt before you can catch any other bolts . Which made this a 2 man project . Thinking about service , I can't see one man taking the door off and putting it back on for a cleaning . Any chance they can change these bolts to studs and nuts ? If not , can we have the bolt size so I can pick up my own studs and nuts ? Thanks alot Glenn for being here for us .0 -

Very Nice and neat job as usual

Glenn Stanton or Ron Jr.
Regarding the heavy door bending the hinge bolts. These hinge pins/bolts are usually relatively soft iron. Are the bolts used for the hinges perhaps replaceable with something like Grade 8 bolts which are available from certain hardware stores? Grade 8 is NOT necessary for closed fastened up doors but will not bend when opened for servicing.

ron as usual you did a real nice job they should see some saveings

engineered design
who does the design & piping layout for these commercial systems RON ? they seem very well planned.0 -
We piped it from
a quick sketch my supervisor made after a collaboration with the reps from the supply house . The sketch showed where the flowvalves and circs should be on the trunk line - thats all . The rest we figured on the job . Thanks alot Bob for the compliment .0 -
As a coincidence
We were talking about this job a few days ago . I was suprised to see this thread pop back up again after the conversation . I'll find out what kind of savings they had so far . Thanks alot Jason .0 -
I'm on it
Hopefully I'll find out how the usage is going over there by next week . From constantly maintaining 180 degrees in that Mammoth , to outdoor reset controlled system water temps in 2 cycling boilers 1/2 the size of the old one , I bet it's a hefty difference . Thanks alot Matt .0 -
I'm not sure which grade
the bolts were made of , but I will definitely hit the hardware store for studs and nuts instead of the bolts for the next biggie . It really does make a cleaning a 2 man job with the setup that comes with the boiler .0 -
Ron
