pit is the pits
Why the pit? Did they NOT have a basement?
Is that oil in the pit bottom or water?
My house had an abandoned oil fired scorcher in a pit under my house. The pit would get a few inches of water percolating up. I removed some flooring and a joist and hoisted it out. Filled the pit in.
Pits are the pits.
Beautiful pipe work BTW.

you sir,are an anachronism..
and that'a a good thing. I'm far from an expert but I know good craftsmanship when I see it. Your work reeks of old-style craftsmanship and attention to detail. No cost-saving short-cuts that really don't save costs.0 -
The Friars

This puppy was ready to go airborne
in to the Harbor 1/4 mile down the hill taking all the fine Franciscan Brothers with it. When I first examined it I "decommisioned" it on the spot, ripping the low voltage wires right off the burner and shutting the oil valves. They were a little shocked but understood. Mad Dog

A liitle bit of both...oil and water
as careful as you are, these jobs get messy. Speedy dry cleanups up all sins. They probably put it in the pit because it was cheaper than building afull second story on the Friary. Most of the Friary is on one level but very expansive. They also use steam to heat the basement and Chapel which is subterranean. Thanks Phil. Mad Dog
