no way
take the DY off that list too. If you've ever noticed, I avoid the DIY homeowner vs pro posts whenever possible. If I had such a huge problem with homeowners posting here, I wouldn't participate in the site at all. No need for insulting behavior by either side IMHO.
The last time I posted without a name, I got a nickname that stuck like glue: PAH!

everbody
here knows that there is no where else to go for any information or help with new thoughts and ideas , and that all information should be weighed at tested not just accepted at face value , there is so much to learn here from the pros and the home owners , there views count too after all there the ones stuck with any equipment that we sell at the end of the day, and the cost reliability and serviceability for all systems belongs to them , this website allows us to put out ideas and test theory without it costing us our shirts and allows the industry to grow with less growing pains , we get to here about problems after the installation is done , many times if the system has problems the people may not come back to you but they might just live with it or search for help from others , some problems may show up right away and some not for years , SO NOBODY SHOULD QUITE THIS SITE WE NEED YOU ALL0 -
it's all good constantin. Obviously many of us would prefer your posts to a low grade anonymous forum troll's any day.
I think it's funny there is all the hoopla about giving info to homeowners. I make my living giving homeowners and contractors the information they need (including, GET A PRO TO PUT IN YOUR BOILER.. every single time). Information is my business.
You know what I do, every day? I give it away for free on these forums and others. I don't beg people to work with me. I often tell people to get a pro involved, that it's beyond our ability to help and send them on their way.
If giving away info for free online isn't hurting MY business.. it's certainly not hurting a local Pro. and of the many dozens of local pros I have worked with that homeowners have found or gotten stuck with on the boiler installers, I've met many that would have given a butcher job system to the client, and I've met many who are shining examples of professionalism.
But how is a homeowner to know the difference? Information. Information like you and many others give away on this forum. Information is power. And if you're a GOOD pro, an INFORMED homeowner can see that, and see why your rates are higher that Joe Low Ball down the street. right?
If that threatens anyone, then I say it should be obvious why. if a homeowner can read a forum for a few hours and poke holes in the system someone is trying to sell them.. and the pro can't straighten them out... then that pro has some soul searching to do.
Screw the trolls and post away. I'll bring marshmallows to the next flame roast.0 -

Holy crap!
I'm a homeowner AND a professional!
I think I have serious issues with conflicts of interest..
Glad to have everyone's knowlege available. From egghead to pipejockey, science to hands on experience, I truly appreciate ALL of you.
Thank you.0 -
And lest we forget
"Find a Professional" was not added for the contractor to find another contractor. It was my understanding that it was for we "homeowners" to find a professional that could provide greater comfort and reduced fuel consumption. Like I did in my building.
So I guess if the Find a Professional was added to HeatingHelp for owners of homes and buildings to connect to professionals, we probably should not be surprised to hear from we "homeowners", sometimes once, sometimes more often.
I am in a Barnes & Noble coffee shop in Baltimore on wireless as I type this but I would like to be handing Steamhead his tools just for the opportunity to learn about neat stuff.

Bingo
Was wondering when someone would pick up on that well said Maine Doug. The "only" reason one should find not to participate, is if they have no interest in heating amongst other topics discussed.........everything.
You "anonymous" strike me as someone standing outside an establishment, refusing to enter because a few people rub you the wrong way....yet there is 20 people you would like to mingle with. Who is at loss?

Having taken countless, controversial stands
on many issues here, I ain't gonna start posting anonymously now....not my style. In fact, I always took a certain pleasure in letting the proverbial punches fly with the target knowing exactly whom it was coming from. I prefer to live up to my moniker. Life and The Wall are a forever-changing and evolving thing, whether we like it or not. In my opinion, an era has ended. Dan and many of you here will always be tops in my book and I think you know who you are. Only Dan Holohan had the vision and foresight to take The Wall this far. The Wall is still a great and special place and I still do stop in for a drink, just not as much. I too, must admit I am not "impressed" with a certain cadre of folks at the other end of the bar, and it's not just one person either...boorish comes to mind. Many brilliant people, unfortunately are boors, and they become parodies of themselves. Oh we'll. They have their camp, I have mine. That's cool with me - that's life. March on! God Bless Dan Holohan. God Bless The Wall, and God Bless America! Signed. very unanonymously Matt MAD DOG Sweeney.

Ubber or entry level
homeowners, DIYers, contractors, manufactures, reps, dealers etc, etc are all welcomed here. Unless the intent and rules of heatinghelp.com have changed?
I have learned as much listening to the homeowners needs and wants as I have from the gray beard contractors
Keep in mind the homeowners carry a large percentage of the cost of this site. Without that support we would not have this site to gather and learn as well as the the right to disagree.
Homeowners and DIYers are also a reason savy contractors get, and stay, listed here!
In addition to being a licensed plumbing and mechanical contractor I am also a homeowner and DIYer. Aren't we all to some degree?
Anonymous posting is for girly men

Mr. anonymous,
I am a homeowner who has a perfectly working system, and has saved thousands by reading and posting on the wall for a year+. Is it your opinion I have no place here? Or do I just need to keep my mouth shut about answering someone's question I may have an answer to? Why am I asking you?
Thank you soooooooooooo much Dan for having this site!!! Like Constantin, I enjoy the heck out of this stuff even though I am a welder / electrician / plumber. (handyman)
Get a life, Mr. Anon. Be a man and show yourself like all of us do. Does your husband post here too?

I've enjoyed...
...Constantine's words here for some time, so went out of my way to meet him at a Wetstock. He's just the same in real life. The enthusiasm and clear reasoning he brings to The Wall help to make it such a rich place. I try to add in where I can too, but have not put nearly the effort in that Constantin has. The place is all about learning and helping. Anything that interferes with that, diminishes it.
Yours, Larry0 -
One clarification....
It's the FAP contractors who pay for the listings, that support this site. The homeowners' or DIY'ers visit for free. How do you see it otherwise?
Unless the books sales to homeowners' exceed the revenues from the FAP contractors...that's for Dan to share.

Were it not for Anon.....
None of this intriguing discourse would have run its course. Instead of cursing the darkness, it's been good to see the many points of light that came to illuminate the cave! Could it be that there's room for dissention too?
One of the things that intrigues me and binds me to The Wall, is the faceless communication that's unhampered by our human frailties of prejudice. Over the years, it's been very interesting to meet those who post here and put physical characteristics with these "voices".
I say let Anon be welcome too. Posts like that tend to make me think about why I'm here as a willing participant. While posting as an "Anon" reduces the impact and weight of a statement, unlike Ken's thread, it can and often does stir passions with some repercussion - like beating a deep bass drum in the forrest. Chicken or poster that could get in deeper trouble by revealing their name - no matter.

Sounds like Supply House Rick is unfortunately a highly insecure individual who cannot stand the fact that a mere "homeowner" might actually know more than him.
This biz is no different than any other aspect of life - there are good pros and then there are incompetent pros - there are ignorant HO's and then there are highly intelligent and well informed HO's. So if an incompetent pro runs into a well-informed HO, and the pro is the least bit insecure, then of course that pro will disparage the HO in order to hide his own inadequacies.
Sounds like Supply House Rick feels threatened by Constantine.0 -
We sell
far more books to homeowners than we do to contractors, Paul.Retired and loving it.0 -
thanks, Dan...
I shouldn't be surprised that homeowners' book sales outsell contractors.

Excluding homeowners??
Hey...not Tim but his wife. I've been listening to this dialogue second hand and had to add my thoughts. We've benefited greatly from all the help you have given us over the past few months and are grateful for your willingness to share knowledge, opinions, hunches, frustration, insights.
I am a research professor at local university. We have
exactly the same type of website in my field (Isogeochem). Everyone is welcome to post from the most experienced researcher to the youngest, newest student. We help each other out because no one can possible know or have experienced everything. Mentoring is the highest form of professionalism. So, keep it up but go easy on ANON. Maybe he has simply had a bad week.

Hi JCA:
Your comment about personal attacks was priceless! The best laugh I've had all week.

Where do you work?
Hey Rick Lighten up Man, remember life is fleeting...........0 -
Yeah. Where do you work? I want to make sure I avoid whatever supply house you work at. Such attitude = not good for business - usually vendors suck up to potential customers - You can always tell when someone is an employee and not the owner of the business. Business owners have a whole different attitude about reaming out the public - they never do it because everyone is a potential customer...If you treat everyone with fairness and dignity you just might find good things will come your way.0 -

Did Cleaver say sumptin'? shore nuff, I best be wakin' up to listen Zzzzzzz0 -
