Not sure of statue number but it there criminal negligence is a very braud term. The law is not going to list heating systems it would be the same statue that they cherge people under for leaving a loaded gun in a home with children or a landlord that doesnt have proper smoke and CO detectors.

In every state the homeowner has more rights then we do and should.

There are laws spelling out the use

of smoke detectors and leaving loaded guns around and people are charged directly by them. In other field like Teacher or EMT in my state you are a mandatory reporter of certain crimes, it is your duty to act or be charged with negligence.

If they charge us with not acting it should be in the code exactly how we should act.

I have in the past on most occasions been able to get the gas co to shut people off and sometimes not. The inspectors have no power and the fire department typically does not understand.

I also have a problem calling for an engine company to stop by when they are better needed elswere.

We need better wording directly related to our trade so we are all on the same page.

    Canadian code

has a section for "suitability of use" (4.5 of the B149 for the Canucks reading this), and subsection 4.5.2 says that " the use of an appliance, accessory, component, equipment, or material shall be prohibited where a hazard is created"

I write on the W.O. the section of the pertinent code, show it to the H.O. list the options and have them sign, issue a red tag, call the utility and fax them a copy of the W.O.

The signature block has 2 places, 1 says I have read and understood the information as explained to me by the technician, the SECOND says I have read the paragraph for the first signature.

Don not PYA, armour plate it
