Underground tank in CT?

Pete, After your local inspector verified that it was ok to back fill the tank he would have most likley documented this in his files. It would be best for you to get a copy of this for your own records this way there can be no disputes about it. Sunny

    Underground tank in CT?

Several years ago I had a company "retire" my underground tank. It wasn't leaking. They cut the top off, went inside and washed it clean, and had the town inspect it before filling with sand. Do I have a potential future issue considering it was inspected by the town before being filled?

    Local inspectors,...

Do not, and are unable to supersede the State agencies involved in the interpolation and implementation of the Federal navigation laws that pertain to underground tanks.
In other words a local contractor, your local Fire Department, or/and your local plumbing or health inspector doesn’t have the authority unless it has been granted to them by the State agency in writing and made a record in the state ledger or general laws, or whatever in your particular state.

This is one of the problems with many aspects of construction surrounding the barrier boards, handicaped access, toxic spills, lighting requirments near airports, and backflow preventers to name just a few issues that your local authority does not have the say in!

    and furthermore

keep in mind that in Connecticut, DEP can and does change the rules when it has a mind to, and there you go...
