    Name update...

...back from the hospital. Mum and daughter are doing fine, sleeping a lot. Daddy got to use his engineering degree today, assembling the bassinet.

Her name has also been finalized as Sundari Elizabeth Katharina...

    Savor every moment

Congrats to you, and the Mrs. VonWentzel Constantin. Savor every moment, in 13 or 14 years "a moment in time", she will be a social butterfly. Sundari what a beautiful name !

Savor holding her like a football.

Savor those night time feedings while you are wery, and tired longing for the time she will be able to feed herself.

Savor the poopy diapers while you are gagging during the changing.

Savor dragging the diaper bag, and stroller everytime you go out.

Savor her wanting Daddy, when at times you wish you could have one of those moments to yourself.

I think you get the picture.

    Congratulations on the new arrival...

Hold her in your arms and listen to Harry Chapin's song "Tangled-up Puppet", and you will truly understand what having a daughter is all about. Enjoy every minute, next thing you know, she will be planning a wedding.

Thanks again to all of you,

... this means a lot to me.

Like all new parents, there is a lot to learn, appreciate, and wonder about/at. I get some time off work, which helps, but the sleep deprivation does take some getting used to.

    Thanks once more.

    Constantin,

Welcome to the club, my friend. You've entered a new realm of life, you will never feel so much love, so protective, and so tired! One of the great moments for me came about 2 months after Elias' birth. I loved having him sleep on my chest, it was a way for us to be close, as close as I could imagine he was with his mother. One day, as he lay on me and I could feel his every breath, I realized that this was my son, my boy, he was forever a part of me, and I, too, was forever a part of him. It was a moment of awesome joy and, I think, the moment I matured from a man to a father.

There have been many magical moments like that over the past 22 months (man, where does the time go?). Although I don't remember each one, each was a tiny treasure that makes being a parent worth all the effort and lack of sleep.

May you and your wife have a million of those moments, and may you both remember them all...

    Alex...

    Yup,

You're so right, Alex, and I hope to keep a log of such magical moments as you describe them.

Having Sundari asleep on my chest is a great joy, makes all the work at night, etc. more than worthwhile. The biggest challenge will be to get back into "real" work life. Leaving mum and daughter at home will be hard indeed.

    Constantin,

Enjoy every moment, and don't worry about trying to remember them all, every stage of development seems to give so many great moments. I think though that you'll remember the highlights...

Give me a shout off-line via email. I need your address...
