how well the system has been maintained..they will work just fine if the pipes are insulated, boilers not to big, if the firing rate matches the load, if the air vents work well, if the traps work well..in short, if its a well maintained system..if not....hammer noise time..

    Also, probably won't save any fuel/money if the house is all masonry - high mass.
