F + T Traps on steam boilers

Options
I have a York Shipley 125 HP steam boiler that has a F + T steam trap located approx. 2 inches above the operating water line. I am having some problems with discharge from this trap. The job is only 4 years old .I have worked on many steam boilers + seen very few trapped. The trap is located by itself on the oppossite side of the McDonnell miller conrol.Any info. is greatly appreciated!

    That would be

a spill trap. It opens only when the boiler has too much water in it.

    Dan knows.

These traps are used to keep a boiler from flooding. If the steam valve is left open and the boiler is idle or on standby it will fill with condensate and when it fires on a call for heat the trap keeps the water line at a safe level.

i work on a lot of commercial steam --probably 50% of our accounts are steam, many with 2 boilers --out of those i have only seen 10 boilers with spill traps --what kind of "problems are you having --in the dual boiler situation --when connected to the common header w/no check valve the "cold" boiler will receive steam from the header--condense and overfill---and drain through the spill trap--if your water quality is poor,dirty,oily--etc.. --and you are surging, priming, foaming you will get a lot of discharge from the spill trap---if the traps' float, seat,or themostat is bad you will get live steam discharge,
