Steam System with tankless hot water question?

There is an aquastat somewhere on the boiler that may be set too high. Usually a setting of 160-160 will keep the boiler hot enough for domestic without generating steam. Have a pro check it out

    steam with tankless question

I have been witnessing a one pipe steam system with tankless hot water put out steam even though it has been in the 80s and 90s all week.

My brother-in-law recently purchased a house where every so often the radiator vents hiss pushing out air. (Obviously, not enough main vents.) I figured it was just his boiler maintaining temp for the tankless water. He had recently called in service because his radiators were steam hot and it was in the 90s outside. I and the service man thought that the thermostat was faulty. They replaced it. Still, the radiators are hissing every so often. Is this normal? My though is that the boiler temp is maintaining at a temperature that is too high. With this type of system do you need to change the boiler temp based on the season? If so, is that the type of adjustment for a homeowner? Any insight would be helpful.

    Thanks

  • The boiler is

probably creating steam on a long hot water draw. Raise the water level to the top of, or above, the gage glass. That will completely submerge the coil, flood the boiler, & stop the steaming.

Don't forget to drain to proper level in the fall.

    heating serviceman NOT

you got a heating serviceman who sold you a thermostat you did not need and is either a thief or knows absolutely zero about steam or anything else. adjust or replace aquastat and end of story.

    Aquastat?

My brother-in-law has a service contract through his oil company so I wonder if the thermostat call was even charged back to him. I will find out.

For the 3 options, sounds like the aquastat could be set to high or faulty. What is the slow water draw? I would imagine the temp is still too high for that? Is their a dial that I can check the Aquastat temp on to rule out the temerature setting?
