Mr. Holohan - Spam

Mr. Holohan.

While you were away on vacation, I posted a thread called Monty Python, regarding spam in my email.

I stated I am getting 20 or so a day. Well this weekend I went away, and when I checked this morning I got 604 of them (yes that is not a typo, six HUNDRED and four).

I do not blame heating help .com, but can this be looked into? I posted a copy of the message content on the other thread if that can help Invision.

I am going to have to change the email address if it keeps going up.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Your humble guest.

Mitch

    Sir Spam-a-Lot

I just delete my spam mail but gee Mitch, you're right, a click to messages on opening menu reveals that most of them are originating here. Hope the guys at invision can zap the spammers.

    back door'ers

There's a new way of spamers and to get your email>> they joint online clubs [althought you don;t have to join this one] and post within the threads>> If you reply they have your email addy

Alot of times they start topics, sometimes not related to the site, to elicit replys [recently seen on one here about WATCHES, but not sure if it was a regular member?]

    New Messages

I never used the new message function until just now. I wonder why only the spam gets through to my e-mail and not the new postings?

    I'll check.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Do you have a spam filter on your computer?

    Filter

All my mailboxes filter spam. I delete every day as a matter of course so didn't notice the increase. An old Yahoo box I keep active has thousands in the bulk mail folder when I visit there once a week or so.

    no need to apologize

Like I said, I just thought you should know what is happening.

They are specifically mentioning the wall.

I do have filters, but use a hotmail account for sites / forum postings so that my other account does not get jammed up. They all go to the junk folder, but unless I inadvertantly clicked a link (which I do not as a rule) they also reference a posting in which I replied to inquiries.

I hold the wall blameless, just wanted you to know as I would nat want the wall to get a bad reputation as a spam generator.

I'm going to get nailed now...

Because of what I'm saying, new email address.

I switched to a 'new' email address that is only posted on the Wall. I made the switch about 2 weeks ago.

I have not (yet) received any spam through here.

Now I've said it, it's going to roll in.
