gas piping
i was always under the understanding running gas piping above a boiler was a direct safety violation.what say the experts.0 -
I would think the experts refer to the NFGC as I do. So long as clearance from the vent is maintained.....
TJust a guy running some pipes.0 -
thanks
Thanks for the imput. the nyc code does not address this particular situation. i will get the fuel code book & check. strange that there was only one response to a safety item. guess every one has a hangover.0 -
I'd like
to see some other opinions also, Bob. As a former inspector I don't recall any code issue although I don't remember running across it.
I personally don't see a problem with it here in MA.

No one seems to want to give a direct answer ,Jack. . seems it is not good piping or safety practice but still not prohibited. i was hoping some of my fellow master plumbers would give their input but i was wrong.0 -

I rathered seen a black iron gas piping over boiler than under neath the burner assy...0 -
no jest, Bob.
Just curious. Under what circumstance might it pose a risk?
What would make it any different than the gas line that feeds the burners?0 -

my objection would be in the event of boiler exposion the gas line would be in direct line of fire & rupture immediately causing addional destruction.0 -
lets be real
if the gas line can come down along the boiler and into the jacket then over the opening to the gas logs and into the gas valve then what is the issue.

Why would it be in the direct line of fire?
Most of the boiler explosions that I have seen pictures of lately were fire tube steam boilers and either the front or rear doors were blown off or the whole boiler was gone. Postion of gas line was not an issue.0
