in n.y.c. m copper is the accepted product for heating lines. baseboard is also made of m or even thinner wall tube. l is better & k is more better t.p. is the best. its a money thing and then you got your stainless.

M-Copper Question

Can anyone tell me if it's the norm, in Neptune, NJ, to run a new-install boiler and fin tube to run the entire job in M-copper tube? I live in NYC and we usually run L-copper to all the f/t elements as well as to and from the boiler. I just thought it odd, sort of a cost-saving measure.

Our township as well as many others allows it for low pressure only.

Very normal

Jimbo, it is very, very, common. Almost all residential heating systems are type "M" in Ct. We only use "L" for heat in commercial applications.

How thin is the copper on the fin? Thinner than "M". A heating system is a closed loop, lower velocity, lower pressure, less oxygen corrosion. It will last for 60 yrs.

Thanks, guys. I just had to ask. My wife has hired our former fuel oil company to remove our old oil furnace and to install a new gas boiler and fintube baseboard. And so far, I'm not at all happy with their style of workmanship.
