mold

Problem with a dehumidifier is that
1) It's only the ambulance at the bottom of the hill instead of a fence at the top.
2) Someone has to keep empting the water container all the time.(unless you put a permant drain though the floor to out side.)
Ventilation gets rid of the moist air out side and the spores of mould which are unhealty.

    Fan

or a supply run off the HVAC system?

Florescent lights really don't out out much heat, so I don't think it would help the mold problem. If any clothes are put in there damp (at all), that could actually make the problem worse.

At the very least, making sure there is some kind of air circulation should help. It's kinda difficult to diagnose a problem like this over the internet.

    Good luck.

    mold...

I found this spray product at Home Depot that works great on mold and mildew. It's in the cleaning department. It's made by ZEP. It's called Mold and Mildew Remover. Spray it on...mold is gone in 15 seconds and stays gone. Try it. It's amazing.

Ventilate, ventilate and Ventilate, Saw 1/2" off the bottom of the door and stick an extract fan in an outside wall/Window.Work out room volume and allow 10 air changes per hour(10x room volume.)Small 6" fan is probably all thats needed.

    Have you considered...

A small freestanding, self-contained dehumidifier should do the trick.

    I Definitely Agree With You

And I like your analogy very much. It is always best to alleviate the cause and not the effect!

I stress this to my students all the time.

    Thanks for your input.
